16. Festival of Lights DREAMS
The 16th Light.Move.Festival. Is Underway!
This year’s festival is a real treat for fans of visual arts and music, featuring 46 artists, 16 installations, 9 three-dimensional projections, including 6 mapping shows, 19 light installations, 2 city parks filled with illuminations, an LMF Kids zone, and as many as 10 music zones.
“This exceptional 16th edition is a particularly special occasion for us. We wanted to celebrate this important milestone in a truly unique way,” says Beata Konieczniak, Artistic Director of Light.Move.Festival.
“This year’s programme features the 2D/3D mapping shows, large-scale projections and animations that festivalgoers love,” adds Beata Konieczniak. Audiences can look forward to 11 projections, including 6 mapping shows! Artists from around the world showcase the beauty of Łódź’s architecture at locations including 113 Piotrkowska Street, 99 Piotrkowska Street, 60–62 Piotrkowska Street and 50 Piotrkowska Street.
The festival’s most popular locations are also part of the programme. A 3D mapping show illuminates the façade of the church at Kościelny Square, while Freedom Square (Plac Wolności) is transformed by a breathtaking 360-degree projection illuminating 12 buildings surrounding the square and 5 tenement houses on neighbouring Piotrkowska Street.
The Poznański Family Palace – The Heart of Light
Light has also brought stories to life on the façades of the Poznański Family Palace, one of Łódź’s architectural gems. Festivalgoers can enjoy two spectacular mapping shows at this location.
The first, created by French artist Vali Cincisan and projected onto the palace façade from the Ogrodowa Street side, combines the aesthetics of digital painting, animated transitions and immersive visual storytelling. Created specifically for the Poznański Palace, the work offers a contemplative experience exploring perception, identity and the enduring power of memory.
The second show, Journey of Dreams (Podróż marzeń), created by MRK6 Studio and projected from the palace garden side, is a colourful, imaginative journey to distant corners of the world. Light transports viewers across borders and continents, revealing extraordinary landscapes, symbols and cultures that take on a completely new dimension after dark.
For the second time in the festival’s history, a mapping show is accompanied by live music. Grand Prix of Dreams features a musical score performed live by composer Paweł Steczek and guest musicians.
The Light Installation Trail
This year’s festival also features an extraordinary collection of artistic light installations throughout the city. In parks, passages and squares, visitors can discover 16 installations. The number sixteen is the guiding theme of this year’s edition.
Three-dimensional sculptures are spread along Piotrkowska Street, throughout Manufaktura and in the city’s parks. Highlights include the monumental 31-metre-long installation A Bird Passing By, featuring 64 sculptures of birds in flight; Karolina Howorko’s 4.5-metre-high Chairs of Loneliness; and the kinetic installation Héliotrope at Manufaktura, which unfolds through a six-minute cycle of light and sound.
Our youngest visitors are invited to explore the magical LMF Kids zone. With installations, projections and workshops designed especially for children, the zone features seven locations across the festival map. There are also plenty of creative activities, including workshops, animations and opportunities to create collaborative artworks with festival animators.
LMF Music – The Sound of the Festival
Light.Move.Festival. is also a celebration of music, with numerous musical stops throughout the city. Festivalgoers can enjoy nine diverse stages, featuring a unique line-up that spans alternative music, jazz, pop, electronic sounds and performances by orchestras.
